The problem
Checking an exchange rate should take a second. Too often it means an app crowded with ads, and nothing tells you when the rate you were waiting for finally arrives.
Who it’s for
Travelers and anyone sending money across borders, with Latin America in mind from the start.
Key decisions
- Latin America first. The default pair is US dollars to Colombian pesos, and the popular list leads with Latin American currencies. I moved off the first rates source because it did not carry the Colombian peso.
- No ads, no accounts, no tracking. Every network request is for a static file on a public source, and everything else stays on the device. The cost: it relies on a free open-source rates feed rather than a paid one.
- Alerts instead of checking. Set a target rate or a percentage move and get a notification when it hits, so you stop opening the app to look.

- Quick Settings tile. Open it from Quick Settings on any screen.
- Accessible. Light and dark themes, with every control labeled and easy to tap.
My role
Solo project. I built it starting from no prior coding experience, using Android Studio, Claude Code, and ChatGPT. Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, live on Google Play. An iPhone version is in progress.
